We used to have a dog who would steal the girls’ mittens. He’d run up behind them, yank the mitten off their hands, and then jump around and toss it in the air, just out of reach. Have you ever heard a dog sing, “Na, na, na”?
I got my current dog when she was almost 6 years old. No regrets. She came housebroken, she has excellent manners, is calm, polite, and loves everyone. Even though she was a hunter previously and doesn’t understand the concept of language, we went right through therapy dog class and became certified. She takes much joy to patients, staff, and visitors in our local hospital. She can switch from gently visiting grandma in a room to playing with the grandchildren in a split second. (Currently children aren’t allowed to visit due to covid, but we have been doing this for 5 years). Most of the staff know her and she greets them like best friends, every time. I have had many dogs but never one with this much love to share.

It took half a summer to teach our dog to fetch. Then the rest of the summer to teach her she didn’t have to fetch everything thrown.
