Did Violet leave the strip in a fit of pique because Lucy took over the football gig even though she began it, or was there some other reason Violet was canned?

November 14, 1951 a momentous time in Peanuts history, that’s right the first football gag. Started with Violet, and not Lucille Van Pelt. Lucy would tee up the mantle the next year.

At least Violet didn’t mean for that to happen. Lucy was diabolical that way.

Well, at least HER reason wasn’t manipulative.

Lucy did it better!

So, it was Violate who started it.

So it was an accident at first, I wonder why Shulz decided to make Lucy do it on purpose?

CB is left footed here but was always right footed with Lucy. (I think)

Very cool in Peanuts Begins to see the genesis of gags and ideas that showed up down the road.

So Violet was afraid Charlie Brown would kick her hand, which actually happened to Lucy years later after she let him kick the football.

I remember having the same fear when my friends kicked the football as I held it. I closed my eyes and held my breath.

Get used to it, CB.

And, it’s funny, but when it’s Lucy, (after the first 3), Charlie Brown always comes from the right, not the left…

When I was a kid my parents bought me one of those kicking tees like they use for kickoffs. I used it to practice my kickoffs and field goal football kicks.

Didn’t see that one coming…

If there ever was an original comic strip to be in a museum, it would be this one!

Violet’s actually the first one who pulled the football away. Not Lucy.

Unless Chuck is left-footed, he will most certainly kick you.
