Is this how Mercator got started?

Give Linus a week or two and see if he still thinks school is fun!

The fun assignments were few and far between from what I can recall of my school daze.

they always spoilt the fun by making you write about what you did ,they were there wernt they paying attension.(they = teachers)

I learned very quickly that you do NOT ask for the symbol for a desert on a quiz! (but it was fun)

I used to enjoy making meridians and latitudes, too. Linus and I must have had the same homework.

Maps make me dizzy.

I love how Linus’ tongue is sticking out of the side of his mouth while he’s concentrating on that desert. I loved watching my nephew color because he did the same thing.

I remember as a kid, I made up a story about a desert island. I made a map of it and colored it YELLOW – for desert. In my story an evil man wanted to flood the island. The people on the island kept putting him off, but finally he succeeded by flooding the island with the blue sea – my blue crayon – you can guess what happened, but to to my surprise the island turned GREEN and was no longer a desert. A happy ending that I didn’t expect!

Meridians and latitudes? Not parallels and longitudes?
