After all the decades I have read Peanuts, it only just occurred to me, how can he be called an ace when he gets shot down so often? Boy is my face red for not wondering sooner.
shadow: To start the engine it first had to be cleared. The propeller was turned by hand to both clear and start the engine. To clear the engine the pilot would first make sure the ignition switch was off and the engine would not fire. After the clearing he would announce either ‘contact’ or ‘switch on’ so the person turning the prop would know the engine would now fire.
I’ll be sailing on a Moselle River Cruise next month. I’ll keep an eye out for Snoopy in case he misses the train this time and gets orders to go for a boat.
@Snoopy_FanI saw your comment the other day. I am glad you like my nickname for Lucy. It suits her well doesn’t it?I hope you have yet another lovely weekend.((((((((Hugs)))))))

Have respect, Snoopy!! Lol He’s so cute. I can imagine watching this. Snoopy’s quotes would sound nothing but Daffy Duck-like gibberish. Haha

like Linus would say “he’s your dog Charlie brown”

Snoopy is CB’s alter ego: imaginative, resourceful, smart, and (Joe) Cool.

I’m not sure, but I think you switch off to choke the engine, then contact or switch on to start it.

They pull down on one side of the prop to turn it.

This is veering perilously close to actual literature. “A fine mist covers the French countryside..” Tres evocative, n’est-ce-pas??

Nice! Even though you (were the third person to) explain a complex procedure you couldn’t resist finishing with a put down,
