Yes, that was General Paulus defending Stalingrad. Hitler promoted him Field Marshal implying that he should commit suicide as never in German military history a Field Marshal had surrendered. Paulus surrendered the very next day.

I believe it is supposed to be the German word for surrender.

If he thinks he’s surrendering to a German soldier, he should say it (spell it?) KAMERAD.

I’ve seen CB wear orange (and, rarely, red) shirts with the zig-zag stripe. But yes, Yellow is the most common.

I never liked that show. It made WWII look like fun. My Grandpa fought in the European Theater and I don’t think he considered it a party.

As a matter of fact, Robert Clary, John Banner, Werner Klemperer (Colonel Klink) and Leon Askin (General Burkhalter) were all Jewish. Askin, and Banner were Austrian, Klemperer was German and Clary is French. Klemperer, Askin and Banner all served in the Army during World War II…the US Army.
