I get a lot of my wisdom from “Bloom County”; I’m a Breathedist.

Purpose? Reproduce and die. Rats are usually pretty good at that.

Rat at time surprises by showing some complexity (I suppose that comes of being Cartoon Boy’s alter ego) But in the end he reassuringly oversimplifies again! —That TV set is such a useful prop in this comic strip!

I’m with rat: religion is all nonsense and manmade so I just stick with fun and games instead.

@nilsm and plus4:I am saddened that this needs repeating, but it is impossible to prove a negative. So of course it is impossible to prove God does not exist. Just as it is impossible to prove God does exist, though many philosophers have undertaken the effort. This is in part why (at least some) Native American tribes have a wonderful way of framing death. They say the deceased “has solved the mystery”, that being the mystery of what lies beyond this life. Ultimately we will all perish. Then, if theists are right, you should know. If we atheists are right, no one will ever know. Either way, it is a form of “faith.”

Bob Dobbs or Flying Spaghetti Monster. Take you pick. I’m Pastafarian myself. .But I know this. The only heaven and hell that matters are those you make for yourself right here, right now.

I see “WWJD” on a car, and, I can’t help myself, I think it means “What Would Jesus Drive?” And, of course, I have to think of answers, so I’ve decided he’d either drive a very eco-friendly car because, after all, his daddy built the planet. Or he would drive…. wait for it….. a 12 passenger van.

But being me, I still prefer “WWSD”…. ’cause Spock is logical.

In the 1980s Mortimer Adler wrote an excellent proof of the existence of God, “How to Think About God,” essentially building on the uncaused First Causation argument. The genius of Adler’s argument, however, was his distinction between “proof of the existence of God” and “proof of the nature of God” – the former is science, the latter is faith. That seems to me to be a ground – holy or otherwise – on which all can live.
