there is a bus station near my daily walks, there can be 6 or 12 people waiting for the bus but never take their eyes off there IPad or Cell Phone, what the heck are they goiing to miss?

No kids; but when visiting I take my nieces to the park so they can run around by themselves. I’m only there because all our parks are truly too far away without driving (and their bikes are at home). I watch the kids for enjoyment, but seethe internally at all the helicopter-ing. You can’t pick yourself up if you don’t fall down first. “If you’re not dirty, you’re not trying,” I tell them.

true on both ends. go to see my nieces, too often they’re glued to the computer or the tv. it’s an epidemic

It’s so sad to watch so many moms in the park with their kids, and the moms (or dads) are just looking at their phones and not their kids.

Willy, it’s not that the phone is more interesting, it’s that you’re LESS interesting.

And the funny thing is that in ten years, it will be Willy who will pay more attention to his phone than to his father

Has anybody read Pastis’s “Timmy Failure” kiddie books? I thought they were a lot of fun. Neighbor Willy reminds me of Timmy.

It won’t. But neither would you anyway, so he might as well have fun now.

When I’m in town, I sit on a public bench and plays games on my phone to pass the time a bit.

A sad commentary on smartphone addiction. This so-called dad isn’t even watching out for his son in a public park in our crime-rich times….

yep nope maybe huh-huh really don’t say how come? yep nope okay i guess well i suppose i remember when there weren’t no cell phones. a lot of dads sat in the park and read the newspaper , book or magazine while their kids playedof course reading a newspaper, book or magazine wasn’t as distracting as looking at an iphony – NOToh yeah and back then lots of kids played in the park with NO parent watching – totally foreign concept today of course.i suppose yep nope huh-huh really don’t say how come? yep nope okay i guess well i suppose

Actually, most parents today would buy little Willy an i-phone so they could sit on the park bench and text each other……..

If I didn’t like Pearls not only would I not read it, I would not buy the treasuries (their better than the regular books because of Pastis’s comments giving some insight into what was happening when he drew them or just inflating his ego over a particular image he likes) or post comments. Being able to post comments let’s me vent my frustrations over something a character has done or over society itself. If someone does not enjoy Pearls then they should not be posting just so they can criticize the strip.

So sad! Bring back the crocodiles and Zeebah!

I like Pearls Before Swine because it really does make a fellow think sometimes.
