Is Duck mad at Bob for throwing parties loud or for not inviting him?

Good to see Guard Duck. But the brand name is Duck Tape. And the original duct tape was created during WWII using cotton duck, aka duck canvas, as the backing. So duck tape is just as accurate as duct tape.

I remember checking the log sheets one morning and reading that the unit was shut down to “clean the ducks”.

It’s fun to ask people what you call the tape you repair things with. Then, when they say “duct tape,” you sing—in the melody of the Duck Tales theme—“whoohoo!”

People call it duct tape “Duck Tape” just as people call adhesive bandages “Band Aids”, clear adhesive tape “Scotch Tape”, tissues “Kleenexes”, and gelatin “Jell-O”.

“Duck tape” is actually the original name: The cloth in it is cotton duck, hence the name. The US military used it in WWII for waterproofling stuff (ammunition cases, etc), so “duck” made sense to the soldiers too. But the original “Duck Tape” brand is a trademark, so competitors use the name “duct tape” to avoid the trademark.

At least he doesn’t have a duck on his head like those 1980s comics.

To the ones that just have to be correct ALL THE TIME…this is a comic strip, take the joke and move on.

In the Submarine Force, we used both green and red cloth-backed tape; we called it “EB Green” and “EB Red” (“EB” for “Electric Boat”, the submarine builder). I still have my old seabag, wrapped with EB Red in a pattern. When the boomer crew flew to meet the boat, picking your bag out of 130 identical green duffle bags required some personalization.

I got a couple of high school/college kids in my neighborhood that I could use little guard ducks help with next.

Duct tape is a key ingredient in an earthquake kit. Many uses and you can even set a broken bone with duct tape, using a magazine to stabilize.

I need the hire Guard Duck to "instruct " a couple of my neighbors on proper noise etiquette. I’ll supply the tape.

Duck tape is great if your duck has a quack in it.

Any devotee of “Myth Busters” knows all about the miraculous and unconventional uses for duct/duck tape. I wouldn’t endorse the use guard duck is illustrating in this strip though. Neighbor Bob is in for a world of pain once they try to remove that stuff!

Hard to believe this turned into a debate on what the tape is called and why, but here’s my contribution:

When people say “duct tape” the words run together so you only hear one of the Ts, just like when people say “hat trick” or “flat top.” So when you hear people say it, just assume they agree with you and move on.

The way I heard it was that it was invented by the Army when they needed a waterproof adhesive covering. Since it shed water like a duck, it was called Duck Tape. Anyone who has ever tried to use it on ductwork will tell you it does not work in the long term. But the Myth Busters sure seem to like it!

Just don’t use duct/k tape to seal a package going through the US Mail (or any of the other major delivery companies). Homeland Security will seize the item and chances are it’ll get some rough treatment.

Li’l Guard Duck is reason enough for anything he wants!

What? I can’t hear you, Neighbor Bob! What’s the matter? Got your mouth full of duck’s duct tape?

If I could have a penny for every time that I have seen duct/duck tape used on a duct and it’s gone bad, I’d have me a mess of pennies. It’s very useful in car racing to piece a car back together after a shunt.

And shouldn’t that be Cartoon Boy? :-)
