I have never been on a Japanese train (or even Japan), but I have heard of employees at Japanese train stations who shove passengers onto the crowded trains… just not sure without the stick.
Well, Rat managed to cram everyone onto the plane, and the airline gets to make some extra cash – sounds like a win-win to me! Seats are such an unnecessary luxury – it’s time to think outside the box. What about all that wasted space on the plane’s wings…
The argument that “They oversell flights because sometimes people don’t show up on the day” is nonsense. The seat has already been paid for (twice, in some cases), it’s nearly impossible to get a refund if you can’t make the flight for any reason, this is just sheer greed.
It doesn’t cost the airline a thing to fly with an empty seat that someone has paid for but not shown up to use.
I do like Rat’s enthusiasm for his job and his honesty. But I wouldn’t want to fly his airline.
Actually, now that I think about it, there aren’t many, if any, airlines that I’d relish flying these days. It’s at best an Unpleasant Necessity to fly nowadays….

Could you at least give them a couple shots of sake and some Vaseline before you do that?

In panel 5, the passengers get the stick away from him and proceed to make rat shish-kebob.

What the FAA doesn’t know won’t hurt you.

Haven’t heard about sticks, but the ones who do the shoving wear gloves. It’s undignified, but civilized.

why don’t they add more train cars? or trains? I guess paying someone to shove is cheaper.

That’s not a long stick. That’s Ann Coulter!

The additional joke is a flight to Tokyo would be many many hours (it’s 11 hours non-stop from San Francisco, for example). Squeeze ’em in!

No one is allowed a carry-on, we can use the bins for people. For that matter, no luggage at all and we can cram them into the hold.
