People have been worried about “the coming apocalypse” ever since I can remember. Why is now so different?

We survived the Mayan Apocalypse – maybe we can survive one more.

I love Rat!

I came of age during the Cold War, when everyone thought a nuclear holocaust was inevitable. It was not inevitable, but it is still a possibility. People should keep it in the backs of their minds that all the Twitters and Facebooks, all the iPhones and Ikeas, all the Teslas and Starbucks could be taken from us in roughly 25 minutes, and there’s not a danged thing we could do to stop it. Fear can make people do horrible things, but so can hubris. Sober realism is sadly unpopular with all our political leaders today.

Rat’s grim realism is very encouraging. I can hardly wait for Whatever Is Coming Next….
