Ah, I miss Sugar Bomb Pops. They were really good with an extra cup of sugar…

Sadly, some humans really do like explosions too well. I think there really was a “Kaboom”! Ah yes, http://www.retroland.com/kaboom/

Phoebe’s mother’s Sugar Kabooms must be like a different brand of Calvin’s Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs. Sort of like Cheerios from General Mills and Toasted Oats from Kashi.

What we ate when we were kids. Makes you sick now. Sad really.

I remember those wintergreen “cigarettes” we couldn’t get enough of. If we saw them today… never mind. Gotta keep this G-rated…

Sugar comes from a plant so it’s also vegan.

For pure, unadulterated sticky sugar, nothing could top the long-gone Post cereal “Rice Krinkles,” which were pretty much the same product as Kellogg’s “Rice Krispies,” but coated with a sticky, sweet, gooey honey glaze that made Cap’n Crunch look healthy. And, as a free bonus, they had one of the most politically incorrect box mascots around—a stereotypical Asian character (complete with conical “coolie” hat) named “SoHi”!

I will see your Rice Krinkles and raise you with the stereotypical hillbilly from “hoo haw” Frosted Sugar Stars. This cartoon is adorable, though I do have my doubts about a concept that took so long to develop and only after going through so many studies and focus groups. Reminds me of how Pepsi went two million dollars over budget and took two years to come up with a name for their new one calorie soda: and the best the wanks could come up with was “Pepsi One”. They could have just given ME the two millions and I would have saved them several years. ha ha.

Same company that makes Calvin’s “Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs”.

Wow! It’s good to see so many people here who are as old as I am – - old enough to remember the cereals and the cartoon characters with them!

Yes! Honey Smacks used to be Sugar Smacks, with Quick Draw McGraw on the box. Corn Pops used to be Sugar Pops. Thaks, Puddleglum, for the reminder of So-Hi; that crossed my mind recently but I couldn’t remember that his cereal was called “Rice Krinkles.”

Crispy Critters, with Linus the Lionhearted Lion on the box – got his own Saturday morning show, too. Golden Crips used to be Sugar Crisp – yet the bear is still known as Sugar Bear, isn’t he? Cocoa Krispies (sp) and Snagglepuss; remember him?

I do remember Kaboom! and that clown that advertised it. The original Cheerios were not sweetened like the others; that was supposed to be a better alternative for cutting down on sugar. Kellogg’s had their own version, called OKs, pitched by Yogi Bear.

Good times – - despite everything else, good times.

Yes, there was a Kaboom cereal early 70’s. It’s mascot was a clown in a polka dot one piece. He would hit things and the cereal would explode everywhere. So you couldn’t say the parents weren’t warned.

whoa! just googed ‘Kaboom’. It’s still being produced despite what happens in the can after it gets digested.

Funny thing is that the real Kaboom (I was a BIG fan…and so sad it’s gone) had a lower sugar content than Cheerios (I checked once)…and that was even after they’d added “mar-bits” animals to Kaboom!

Deep down, I want most things to explode.

And it was okay to use “sugar” back then because parents actually encouraged their children to go outside and DO things that required energy, before we succumbed to the whole “Stranger Danger” hysteria of the 1980s.
