I once walked into a conversation between two female co-workers over whether something was cranberry or burgundy. I offered maroon and they looked at me like I had crawled out from under a rock. Good thing I didn’t say dark red.
(Interesting science fact for you science-fact fans: According to a Scientific American article, a tiny percentage of women have FOUR types of rod cells in their retinas. However, as of a few years ago, nobody had yet studied what effect this has on their vision. For me, I thought everyone knew men can only see seven colors.)
Reminds me of a Home Improvement episode where Tim points out all of his wife’s red belts - and she corrected him by giving a different name to each red.

Aubergine, celadon, mango, pumpkin, espresso–got any of those in the closet, Nelson?

They have all sorts of crazy colors now, including Fuzzy Wuzzy Brown and Macaroni & Cheese.

I like it when they use “onyx” for black.

I wouldn’t say Nelson’s shirt is “lily pad.” It looks more like “clean energy” to me.

A cranberry sweater with a lily pad shirt? Who dresses that boy? (Or perhaps I should say “bog.”)

Eldo, puce is actually more of a greyed out lavender, and certainly NOT “dark red”.
