Years ago there was a strip where Opal answered the phone in the middle of the night. It was their daughter telling her she had just had a baby girl. Opal was not completely awake, and after she hung up and woke up, she realized what happened. Does anyone else remember this, or did I imagine it?
When I was a kid, the house quiet, lying in bed at night with my ear against the mattress, I heard my heart pumping. Somehow the springs of the mattress made the sound reverberate, and I imagined there was a factory in my head. The sound was similar to the rhythmic thumping of the forges where my father worked.
my dad is color blind, during games like uno he can never tell blue from green; in one game my then 16 year old niece told my dad the green card he played was really blue, so he took it back and drew a card; we all rolled on the floor lauging

That’s not crickets, Opal, it’s tinnitus. You’re never alone with tinnitus—unfortunately.

my husband hears crickets all the time due to his tinnitus. He had hearing aids but won’t wear them. ((sigh))

“Opal,I hope you have to spend your knitting funds for Earl’s new batteries.”
Oh no! Not that! Anything but that! Sorry, I’m an avid knitter. Never get between a knitter and her knitting supplies.:)
