Looks like he doesn’t like the idea very much.

Didn’t think he could move that fast.

She doesn’t realize how happy they are in their aloneness.

She wants Pearl and Leon to have the kind of life she and Earl have, which is . . . ? Utter neutrality?

Utter neutrality kept my grandparents together for over fifty years.

Earl really loves his brother.

The wife is just the tip of the iceberg

My mother played matchmaker like that on several occasions with mixed results.

One of her “successes” was with my maiden aunt, and a lifelong bachelor, friend of the family.

Both were in their mid-fifties and never been married. Both were " set in their ways " and highly independent.

It was fun to watch as they ’adjusted" to life with each other.

I think the glue that held them together, till death parted them, was, in large part because they both had a great sense of humor, and could laugh, not only at each other, but at themselves.

How is it that Leon and Pearl haven’t met before this? How long have Opal and Earl been married? Weren’t they both at the wedding?

Such a bad idea getting family members together. If her sister vents about her husband, Opal can’t go to Earl and talk about it because he may take his brother’s side. Messy, messy, messy.

Being alone doesn’t always mean you’re lonely. I like my alone time!!
