We often avoided the toll roads and interstates on our many road trips — you see more of the country that way, not just empty miles of multi-lane roads and drivers in a huge hurry.
We programmed the GPS to avoid toll roads in our Class A motorhome. Big mistake. We ended up on a road that was so narrow that even though we were across the yellow line, we hit a power pole with our passenger side mirror and shattered the mirror. So, in order to save a few dollars in tolls, we ended up spending almost $300 to fix the mirror.
We have a law here that once a road is paid for, the state can no longer charge a toll on it. So they sold the road to a foreign company who put a toll on it. Go figure.
Toll roads are a rip-offs, especially when they are Interstate Highways. The federal government built them and provide funds for maintaining them. State built toll roads are in no better condition than most other highways.

Sometimes you just have to slow down and enjoy the view.

It’s about the journey, not the destination.

If she’s in that much of a hurry, why doesn’t she pay the tolls?

If the road is good, there are fewer trucks, and the speed limit is loose, pay the toll.

The gas wasted is probably more than what he would have paid in tolls.

And then bitch about all the stop lights he had to wait for along the way.

I wouldn’t mind paying tolls if it actually went to road maintenance. Around here it goes into the state’s “General Fund.”

And burn up enough gas to make the long tour cost twice as much as the tolls.
