So what kind of project requires one and five-eighths inch, bugle-head crews?

Well of course he has to go to the hardware store. Maybe not to buy anything, but at least to cruise the aisles in case he finds something that he just has to have.

Pluggers are like children in a toy store when they are in the hardware store.

Cindy sounds like my wife. She complains that my work cellar is full of useless odds & ends; but I can always find the right widget to fix a broken gizmo.

I’ve never heard the term “Bugle head screws”… are these supposed to be “countersink” screws? :-)

Back to hardware because packages always have one less nails, screwers, whatever, that is needed.

Yeah! The screws cost a fortune. More than one way to get screws!

It takes me three trips. The first one, I get the wrong part, the second I break it. The third trip is to a different store.

Sounds like he is wanting to use the wrong screw for his project. I don’t believe they make 1 5/8 Bugle head wood screw. Bugle head wood screws are typically much longer and do not use the typical Philips head screw driver to screw them in.

That’s a given. The corollary is that any project takes one more trip to the hardware store than you think it would.
