My favorite Subway which is in the same area as the grocery store I work at became a medical clinic (though I don’t know how long ago). Now if I want a Subway sandwich, I’d have to go all the way near another grocery store (of a different name).

Whenever I taxi my grand kids around I sweep an arc with my arm and say “This all used to be trees.”

If he knows where Gus’s gas station was, and that that’s where he needs to turn left, then what’s the difference whether the gas station is still Gus’s or even still there? But if he’s counting on recognizing Gus’s gas station to know where to turn, he might be in big trouble…

I had to fill in at one of our smaller local offices one time and was given a stack of work order requests. I noticed about half of the requests used Howell’s Saw Mill as a reference for directions. I asked one of the ladies in the office where Howell’s Saw Mill was. She said that it had burned down about 25 years earlier but everyone still used it as a reference point and told me where it had been. It was a good thing I asked or I never would have been able to those work orders written.

Road signs do help ;-)

Even after something else is built where some old memory once stood, for a Plugger it will always be referred to by the original landmark.

The service station I used to go to was setup decades ago right next to the trolley tracks. The trolley stopped, the shop continued. Then the light-rail came in along the trolley path and the land became so valuable the third-generation owner retired. There’s about 200 apartments on the property now.

It still works if you’re navigating for another Plugger who knows where Gus’s Gas Station was.

Never ask for directions in the country…

This is followed by a comment from the driver “You know what I meant.”

“You go down the road a piece, then turn left where the old Johnson place used to be…”

No.. it will always be known as Gus’s place..

Or you can always take a right where the old hot dog stand used to be next to Jenkin’s barn.

I thought Pluggers navigated solely by cemetery locations
