And not always associated with being hard of hearing and usually involving something a mutual friend did. Likely a not-so-smart move.

At my last hearing test the audiologist said I just needed a little amplification, so I bought a Banglijian “not a hearing aid”. $150 and rechargeable. Even on the lowest settings, it works so well I bought a spare. My wife is quite happy with it.

In our house it was always “What’s the matter?” Even the parrot started saying it!

Because some people don’t seem to know which end of the handset to talk in to. And some seem to have it stuck in their nostrils. Or insist on eating potato chips while during the call.

…especially when he’s driving (because he cannot read your lips).

You can waste a lot of energy on a fifty-what conversation. :)

He sounds like a light bulb.

Around here it’s followed by, “I heard what you said. The question is what are you talking about?”

WHAT?!

These days, it’s not just the difficulty in hearing, it’s the incredulity at what’s going on in this increasingly insane world.
