A spoon would work very well. If you also have a scoop of ice cream to go along with that pie.

I taught my grandkids that if their parents take them out to a restaurant that they should complain in a whiny voice, “At the finer restaurants the salad forks are chilled.”

Was treated once buy a company rep to to dinner at a very up scale restaurant that had three forks, two knives and three spoons in the place setting My mother had taught me a lot about etiquette but not on this scale. i used one fork, one knife and one spoon (the soup spoon). Set the others aside and said they could be used to set the place setting for the next dinner.

My bestie and I give restaurants extra points if they supply a spoon without being asked.

I never use “salad forks.” They’re too small. Good, I suppose, if you want to eat like a rabbit…

Husband does get upset on holidays when I cook a big dinner for the two of us and then insist on using the “good” china, silver, glasses, etc. Plus I put out the proper silverware. We have compromised – he can use his every day plastic, short glass instead of the good glasses. We do eat for holidays in the dining room – I pointed out to him that I need the kitchen table to have room to do the cooking and if Thanksgiving to have a place to carve the turkey, so need the kitchen table clear for same. Plus all the “good stuff” is like toys to me.

(I grew up in a home in which we used the “good” everything for holiday dinners – including the dining room. His family ate in the kitchen with the everyday dishes as the good dishes, etc might get damaged – kitchen table for 4 people with me, his BIL and his 2 grandparents plus him, his sister and parents – 8 people at a table for 4.)
