True story. A few years ago, I was camping right on the beach at Flamingo, Florida. It was around 6 in the morning, and I was awakened by the steady drone of a motorboat and a father talking to his son about how to fish. After about 5 minutes, I wondered why he was doing circles next to the beach because he just wouldn’t go away or stop the boat. So I got up. I looked out on the water and didn’t see a boat, although I could clearly hear him. Then I saw him. He was about 3 miles away, slowly moving across the horizon. A temperature inversion caused his voice to carry all the way to the beach.
