My parents met at a wedding. The wedding was in November of 1949; they were married in September of 1950. My brother once asked my dad why they chose their wedding date, and Dad answered, “It was the first date that the priest had available.” They were married for 67 years before my mother passed away in 2018; Dad followed in 2020.

I am university educated. My late wife was a high school dropout who was divorced and had kids from 2 different fathers when we met. I never hit it off with anyone in university because we had nothing in common… they were worried about which beach resort to go to for Spring Break, and I was worried about coming up with the $5.00 i needed to afford to eat for the next week.

My parents met at a county fair in England. My father was an off-duty U.S. military policeman assigned to RAF Mildenhall at the time and was cleaning out a shooting gallery. My mother was a governess for a doctor’s family and was on her day off. She worked up the courage to come up to him and ask him what he was going to do with all those stuffed animals. He said they are yours, if you want them, and the rest was history. Did I mention that he was in uniform? A man in uniform will get the girl every time!

Meeting in college, same age, etc. is part of the fact that most marriages (or at least first marriages) are a “close external fit” between the individuals and their families.

Met my wife in church, at an Air Force Chapel. I chased her until she caught me, Thirty-nine years so far.

My parents met while skiing. They were in the same class, and my mom’s friends left early, so she asked my dad for a ride back to the university they both attended.
