First, (and I know this will come as a shock to some people), the Democratic party does not march in lock step singing, “Hi, el Leader!”, they are a diverse group representing their constituencies and some oppose abortion. Secondly, why would it seem necessary to codify a right? Is there a law saying you have the right to assemble? No, because it is a right the Supreme Court recognized. Finally, it takes 60 votes to pass a law through the Senate, currently, now that it is apparent that the SC gives two figs for precedented rights, there are not those votes available, getting rid of the filibuster, by a carve out or any other mechanism guarantees that the autocratic Republican party will create chaos when next they control the Senate. Why don’t American people stand up and demand a constitutional amendment? Are they too lazy to do their jobs and vote? No, we just couldn’t imagine that a person could be required to sacrifice their health or life for the possibility of another person.
