Giving enough warning there might be away around the roadwork.

Well that sign kind of ruins it (defeats part of what it says) -

    - with it the roadwork is no longer really a surprise.

I was crossing a bridge in sub zero cold weather and heard a loud bang. The next day I had a broken wheel bearing and they closed the bridge because of a broken expansion joint.

Make a pit stop if you are lucky enough to do that before the construction zone starts.

Well, I don’t need to be told when to start swearing, it happens automatically when I see a roadwork sign.

fortunately, we’d made a pit stop before ending up coming to an unplanned halt inside a 4-km tunnel where a truck driver had, oops, blocked both lanes when the portapotty he hadn’t lashed well enough fell off the truck bed…

There’s not much swearing if 2 of the 3 lanes are still open. All bets are off if there’s only 1 lane and a guy with a sign letting folks take turns using the road.
