Rover can teach Red a thing or two about adapting to the situation.

Dogs especially love socks, lol! My Lizzie could spend hours with one!

The white sock with a red patch in Rover’s imagination reminded me of a bandage with a small bloodstain on it. It would have been good if Brian Basset had taken this imagery further and had Rover imagine Red with a bandage and a small bloodstain to match the sock. Perhaps Rover didn’t want to imagine that but he has imagined Red seeing stars.

On the other hand, it might not be Rover’s imagination we see but Rover’s memory of fun he has had with Red’s socks.

Rover, a dog that can be satisfied almost indefinitely.

The poodle we had when I was a teen had his own sock with a knot in the middle of it. We’d play tug of war with him. He loved putting his paw over the sock and instantly move up to the knot. He’d keep doing that till he got to our hand and we could feel his front teeth pinching our hand. We’d let go and he would pick it up and give it a great few shakes in triumph.

Newton loves tug, so he got a new rope for Christmas—made from braided strips of old t-shirts. Knotted or braided socks may be a good alternative!

I find myself wondering if Rover knows Mooch of “Mutts”, and the infamous Little Pink Sock!

Dogs love socks- – especially if they are smelly.

Must be a ‘70s thing. Surely parents don’t give kids socks (or underwear) for Christmas still?
