Fruit fry! Sliced grapes catch fire when cooked in the microwave. I wanna big one!! In 1910, Theodore Roosevelt offered a reward that grew to $50,000 for the live delivery of a 30 FT snake to the Bronx Zoo. The offer remained until 2002! Only licensed electricians may change a lightbulb in Victoria, Australia. Duh!

So, the electric company of that Australian state doesn’t want the general public to accidentally electrocute themselves?

Yeah, but how many licensed electricians does it take?

I’ll bet the lightbulb thing is related to CFC bulbs. When they first came out, the EPA recommended that if you broke one in the carpet to replace the carpet. They are not to be thrown in the trash or landfills. There is a long list of caveats. It’s because of the amount of mercury in them. Yeah, I know, I played with the stuff as a kid, too.

Why did Roosevelt want a snake delivered?

I have to ask: “How many licensed Australian electricians DOES it take, to screw in a lightbulb…?”

I believe Aussies use an ungrounded 200 volt or better wiring system! Light bulbs are known to shatter when attempted removal and expose live filament remains

So who paid out the reward? the zoo or the Roosevelt Estate?

How many Victorians does it take to screw in a light bulb? Only one, but if he isn’t licensed there will be trouble. Was that originally a Polish colony by any chance?

Supermarkets report a sudden increase in grape sales on Sunday. They are unable to explain why.

Why on earth would anyone want to microwave grapes anyway? To make raisins? Just dry them in the sun!

I’ve had mercury switches and didn’t know about the pendulum but you can get atomic clocks now that have no mercury.

Glenn from Victoria, Australia here. I’ve been changing my lighbulbs all my life and haven’t received any fines.
Perhaps you the artist could do a bit better research – I found this in a couple of minutes:

Many people believe that unless you’re a qualified electrician, it’s illegal under Victorian law to change a light bulb in your own home — and doing so will attract a $10 fine.Thankfully, a spokeswoman for Energy Safe Victoria has good news.“I can confirm that it is not illegal to change a light bulb in Victoria,” she told news.com.au.“While the Electricity Safety Act makes it illegal to do your own electrical work if you are not licensed, changing a light bulb and removing a plug from a socket were specifically exempted from this requirement under Order in Council G17.”
