    When my mom was a little girl, she had a maiden aunt whose only love had been killed in World War One. So, to avoid hurting their aunt’s feelings, they called the old maids “uncles.”

    Many years ago I read (or heard in a movie commentary) that Turpin’s studio forbade to have surgery to correct his crossed eyes. Don’t know if that was true or not.
