Shaquille O’neal doesn’t hold the record for the worst career free throw percentage in the NBA. There are four others above him. He is number five on the list at 52.7%. He is just behind number four Wilt Chamberlain at 51.1%. He is also not number one in most career free throws missed. He is number two again behind number one Wilt Chamberlain. According to the below site Wilt missed 5,805 free throws.

And there are those that complain about wind-power giving them headaches! Wonder if Jono was one of em?

Read an article a couple years ago about how throwing free-throws “granny style” is actually more accurate and efficient. That’s when you toss the ball from the knees upward with both hands. But basketball players are more interested in how it looks, so they keep doing it the old, inefficient way.

Sean Daly didn’t get much altitude on those bounces, did he?

Someone is confused… free throws are shot from the free throw line perpendicular to the backboard. Not to be confused with a jump shot from what appears to be a few feet from the baseline. Even as big as Shaq is, if his head is as high as the net, then that’s a jump shot!

If he missed 5,300, how many did he sink?

Steph Curry shoots 1000 free throws every day. Michael Jordan did likewise

The Shaquille factoid by itself is meaningless, especially for those of us who are not familiar with the NBA. Is that a lot, or is it little? How does it compare to other top basketball players? How does the length of his career play into this figure?

Jono had too much time on his hands.

Soon after my wife and I moved to Central Florida from Indiana, we were invited to a game of the Magic when Shaq was playing. At one point Shaq got a fast break and ran down the floor to do a reverse dunk – but he missed. The ball bounced out; however, the crowd cheered and cheered. My wife looked at me and said “I don’t know why the crowd is cheering a show-off bungled shot like that. In Indiana the crowd would not have cheered but would have gone after his family.”

That’s nothing! I used to “double dribble” all the time. ;-p

Sean Daly has some quick hands. That’s more than 13 bounces per second or even 6-7 bounces per hand per second.

We used to call it “Hack a Shaq” and it was the best (but also most hated) in-game strategy of teams which needed to stop the team with Shaq on it from scoring so much.

As a side note: Shaq’s former teammate Kobe Bryant missed more than 14,000 shot attempts in his career, which is more missed shots than anyone in history

Can Shaquille dribble two basketballs on a windsurfer?

I could probably dribble two basketballs 60 times in 729 seconds.
