When I was young, there was a small store in a small town nearby that had a major league train layout. Loops, bypasses, all the requisite mini-buildings, etc. People would come from far and near to see it. For a few weeks each year, it was more than the small police dept. of that small town could handle.
I inherited my dad’s HO train set. He got it new in 1939 for Christmas (he was 9 y/o at the time). I restored it once and got it running (needed a good cleaning – transformer and tracks, especially). However, since my husband got sick (and eventually passed away this year) and we had to move and then my daughter moved back home with her cat, I have not had the space or time to set it back up and see if it still runs. Once I retire, though… :o) The engine was the kind that puffed smoke if you had the right liquid smoke to add. I don’t know if I could restore it to that level – or if I can even find that kind of liquid smoke anymore.
Then, there are the Sushi Bars which set plates containing favorite Sushi & Sashimi selections onto a model train’s Flat Cars running on a track that passes every table so that customers can select the items they enjoy eating as the train runs past.
After the party finishes dinner, the waiter counts your empty plates and totals up your bill. Plates are color coded according to the Prices of the items placed on them.
