I use that approach for capturing flying insects. Capture the insect under the glass, slide a stiff piece of paper between the rim and the wall, then carry the glass outside and release the critter.
As a child, I learned quickly that a can of Lysol and a match made a marvelously effective flamethrower, getting rid of spiderwebs in corners, near the ceilings, or anywhere else for that matter!
I looked up from a book a few days ago and saw a snake staring at me. A skinny little runt. It got put outside where it will do better. A young king snake, I think.
Aww… Wow… Just put a glass over it, slide the piece of paper, and put the poor thing outside. Like said above. I never really understood the killing of spiders. They’re useful! They kill the annoying bugs.

If there’s no bug spray handy, drench that sucker with air freshener.

I keep a can of bug spray in the bathroom for just such an eventuality.
