I used to work for a company that had a contract with Verizon to collect phones returned to them and refurbish them, sell them to third world countries or scrap them.

Verizon sold some of the refurbished phones. They decided that the term “Used Phone” like “Used Car” wasn’t marketable enough so instead of “Pre-Owned,” they called it Certified Like New.
