Don’t blame the bankers for doing what they had to do after the federal government forced them to write mortgages everyone knew couldn’t be paid back. Fault where fault is due.
The federal government set up a situation in which Freddie and Fannie co-signed the loans. Therefore, they knew they’d be repaid. Under those circumstances Congressmen would’ve accused them of discrimination if they DIDN’T make the loans.
As to federally financed campaigns: that forces me to pay to support a political aspirant whom I dislike and it can’t stop individuals from supporting a candidate he likes independently of the limits of the campaign finance laws, so it would do no good and would cost me (and you) more money.
Finally, unless the bankers broke laws in existence at the time, they can’t be jailed just because we now agree it was a bad thing.
