I, for one, am so turned off by what tennis has become that I no longer watch it. All this moaning, groaning, grunting and growling has become a major distraction. If the crowd has to keep quiet, so as not to distract the players, then the players should, likewise, shut up.
er, Sharapova is as American as any Russian who came here as a child to learn her craft can be, whether she plays for the Russian Olympic team or not, and she started this whole thing. And it really is more like an Indian war cry.
By the way, Serena Williams is the best female player in the game and does none of this.
And, if you don’t like or watch tennis, what are you complaining about?

And as an observer and semi-fan, the crowd has to remain quiet, why? anyone?

I’m waiting for a player, female OR male, to just give birth on the court already. That’s what their matches sound like these days.

Actually Monica Seles was grunting long before Sharapova ever turned pro.

I remember Seles’s grunting causing controversy. Was there anyone before that?
