Why is Tarzan obsessed with an elephant. It’s humans who are bypassing into its habitat.

Perhaps the comic author is trying for an allegorical tale, like Moby Dick. Tarzan as a sad Capt Ahab figure.

Shrewdly? So, if Tarzan wasn’t shrewd enough to avoid his own trap, would it read something like, “Tarzan, being a total dumbass, falls into his own trap,”?

It may just be the perspective, but it appears that pit might be a little too small for Tantor to fall into, with anything more than some painful injuries, meaning someone will still have to come back and put the poor beast out of it’s misery

Poor elephant. He’s just paying man back for killing his family. He only sees the creature who did the deed, not the actual spirit of the thing. Humans have become the cause of the problem not the solution!

I personally feel sorry for Tantor. His whole herd was wiped out and he lost it (who wouldn’t) so now the great Tarzan is going to kill Tantor. Couldn’t they have driven him off to some other place where he couldn’t hurt anyone else?
