Halloween is always quiet here, but that does not mean theres no excitement.Roy and Chester decided to be space cats for Halloween,I’m gonna make some stills of this there are some great shots in the making.
As it’s Sunday I thought I’d properly introduce you all to my Avatar, Robson. He moved in from next door (at his insistence) and brought my other black cat (Poppy Mk1) along with him. He was a farm kitten and had the bullet-proof genetics that went with such an ancestry, he enjoyed good health right up to the blood clot in his back in February 2011, he was about 16.Robson was the Alpha Male of my tribe (that numbered fifteen at one point), he ruled the neighbourhood with a paw of iron!
Two more of Robson, he was a gentle soul who could fight like a tiger when required, he loved his creature comforts and had a purr that could melt steel.
Yay! Siamese Sunday! My first kitty love was a Siamese. I believe he pulled me through a dangerous fever one time. I was about 11 years old, home alone from school, and my fever spiked so high I was delirious. I could hear the TV, but couldn’t open my eyes or lift my head. I couldn’t come out of the darkness, even though I tried. Then, I was aware of my cat purring. He had laid on my chest, almost nose to nose with me, and just started purring as loudly as he could. That sound brought me slowly back to full consciousness. I heard him, then blacked out. Heard him again, purring insistently, and managed to pet him a little before blacking out again. Finally, his loud purring woke me enough to open my eyes. I pet him again, and he nuzzled me a bit, and then I was ok. I know that it would probably be overly dramatic to say that he saved my life, but I do believe that he sensed my distress and was trying to help me. He was my angel that day.
Oh, how I wish there was a “like” button on the comments! Well, silly me, then there would be pages upon pages of “likes!” LOL! You have the most wonderful imagination, Graham! Thanks for the smiles! xox
Robson was sweetness and light with the rest of the brood, he even used kid-gloves with the males that I took in as a rescue (did I mention I was a soft touch?). He protected the rest of the cats from the neighbourhood males, I can recall him taking lumps out of one off the cats up the road who was chasing Thomas, he gave the chasing cat a pasting (fur was flying) and he didn’t even bother standing up!The story behind Robson moving in is typical of his purrsonality, I walked into the kitchen one morning to find him sitting on the table looking at me, I told him to go home and put him out the back door. He came in through the cat flap and sat on the table again looking at me expectantly. We went through this procedure twice more, it was then very clear that he wanted to be here and not next door. He stayed with me until he had to pass on in Feb 2011.Poppy (Mk1) unfortunately went AWOL on 08/08/03, it had been a very hot day (UK, Suffolk) and she had a habit of getting into vehicles, so despite extensive searches she never re-appeared. A lot of neighbours took part in the search, I still get asked if I’d found out where she went. I was going to post her later but I’ll post a couple of pictures and a potted history.
Great pictures EVERYONE! And great stories, Arianne and Barry! Robson was BEAUTIFUL!
You were lucky he lived to 16. My Hannah Bee, gray and peach, born on my back porch, lived to be 16 and 4 days old. Broke my heart when she died in my arms. She looked right at me and meowed. I truly believe she was telling me goodbye! That’s the third pet I had that died in my arms. My yellow lab Suzy died in my arms as well, and so did my beagle/lab mix Charlie Girl.
Poppy Mk1 was a little black female cat that moved into mine around the same time as Robson. A really wonderful cat that was as friendly as you could wish for, and very approachable for a quick stroke by the neighbours and passers-by. When she was about six months old she got chased into the road by one of the neighbourhood cats and was hit by a car, she survived but lost an eye and from then on had a deformity to her face and jaw due to the injuries.
She didn’t let this stop her.
I’ve never known such a prolific hunter, no field mouse was safe! A couple of months before she moved in she brought me a present of a dead, bleeding, rat. She dragged it in through two cat flaps and left it in a pool of blood in the middle of the kitchen floor. The dead rat was about half the size of her. Like all of my departed ones, I miss her terribly.
Late checking in today but I would have missed good pics and stories if I had been here earlier.
I lost Misty the same way- she had 11 great years (I got her from under my office trailer soon after she was born). One night in a December, she screamed in pain and was gone 2 hours later. The ER vet said she had an erupted tumor on her back and it kinder to let her go than have surgery that probably would not save her. She, too, was all black.
I’m not sure I like the lady at the door. She’s demanding the sweet one. Hrmmphh! Oliver needs to stay with Annie and the others.
Robson was a gorgeous, handsome cat, Barry. And Poppy Mk1 looks sweet. I have cat stories too, but I don’t want to get into too sad a mood. Reading about all these wonderful cats makes me miss the two big loves of my life, Stormy and Mua, 20 and 14 years respectively when they died. Our other cats lived only a couple of years or months and didn’t have the same impact on my life.

Took it a while to load, so I just saw it. Those cats would have wondered why they could see but not smell anything. Fascinating.
To all: Siamese cats are special. I have never owned one, except a white pointless cat named Snowball. He had blue eyes, a kink in his tail, the short fur and Siamese meow to go with his very idiosyncratic ways. He was also a one person cat, and he owned my sister. He bit everyone else.
BARRY, I know what you mean. I miss all my pets, dogs and cats *TERRIBLY! Some have been gone for years, but I still remember them, smile at the good times, and yet, still grieve for their loss! Sometimes, I even have dreams about them, like they are still with me. GOOD DREAMS!

No way are we going to let Oliver go. He has to stay with the other nine cats and Annie; that is his family.

Mistys’ favorite spot – she would sit there all day and talk to either the scarecrow or the Santa Brad used to put there.
