    Dear That Is Priceless Faithful,

After last week’s banishment scare, I just wanted to officially welcome mabrndt back to the strip. Also, for those who don’t know, earlier this month, mabrndt completed his original goal of researching 1000 – count ‘em, 1000 – different artists, and is still going. His contributions to this strip are as immeasurable as my (and I’m sure, all of our) appreciation for his efforts. To mabrndt!

    Steve

Calliope teaches Music to the young Orpheus

    https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Alexandre-Auguste_Hirsch_-_Calliope_Teaching_Orpheus,_1865.jpg

(best viewed by Google Chrome which can automatically translate most pages as necessary) has info and links that point to info about this painting.

    https://collection.spertus.edu/artist/auguste-alexandre-hirsch

    http://www.ernesto-ballesteros.com/up/Archives/Portrait-of-Paul---dated-1880-Oil-on-canvas-signed--dated-and-titled-Paul-at-the-top-right@@sites@2@Product_xx_idProduct--5677__lang--en@@.htm

    https://femmefemmefemme.wordpress.com/category/alexandre-auguste-hirsch-1833-1912/

all have sparse info about this artist (the last in French; again, Chrome can automatically translate, and the 2nd illustrates why I miss hyperlinks), perhaps in addition to what’s pointed to by the first URL. This is the first work by him used here.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #2161 (March 18, 2019) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment.
