The days when babies were harvested from the ocean. At least that is what I was told when I asked the question.

The nanny could’t take her eyes off the kids for a moment – they would make a break for the ocean, and she would have to chase after them and fish them out.

Should make diaper changes a snap…wait, you don’t need them. Hold them over the water to do their “business”, dunk them halfway to clean ‘em, and:: Presto. You’re done!

Earlier in my life there were many times when I saw small children innocently allowed to play nude at beaches. It is sad that we’ve come to an era when we’re now obliged to automatically condemn any nude display of children as pandering to pedophiles.

Check out https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginie_Demont-Breton. It turns out this artist did a number of paintings depicting the lives of the fishing folk around Wissant, France, where she lived. She did this one of a mom hauling her kids out of the water in 1881; in 1888 she did a similar painting of what looks like the same mom throwing the same kids back in. It also turns out she was a major activist in making it possible for women to be professional artist in France.
