Yeah, I do too. I wouldn’t have touched a record of his but he was there every New Year’s. That was about the only reason to bother watching TV that night. I was just reminiscing to my grandson the other day about watching Dick Clark’s first show (I think) and how he had Three Dog Night on. There were probably other people but 3DN was all I recall. Of course my grandson said, “Who?”
I saw Dick Clark do one of his last “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” shows before he died. He shouldn’t have bothered. The stroke he’d had rendered him looking like death warmed over.
I only saw him in black and white. The music show was broadcast from the Waldorf Astoria instead of Times Square. I’m lucky to live near Seattle where we watch the fireworks at the Space Needle on tv.
I remember watching Johnny Carson on New Year’s Eve when I was a kid. As soon as Doc played “Auld Lang Syne” it was time for us little ones to scoot off to bed.
at least we won’t have to endure Kathy Griffith’s silliness with Anderson Cooper this year. In years past I would even turn the channel when the promo for her came on
I’m not sure if there is anything comparable to the Great Bands era. Today you have singers with groups. Not the same. Guy Lombardo, Artie Shaw, Glen Miller, and on and on never sang a note. But they all had great vocalists (where the ultra famous got their start) Frank Sinatra, Dick Haymes, Ella Fitsgerald, Helen Forest and on and on.

Was the music good? He was probably thinking of his listeners rather than of his look. Millions of people everywhere loved him.

I miss music and talent in the New Years Eve shows. We haven’t seen either for several years.

I miss Lombardo, too. It’s never been the same. To me, he owned New Year’s Eve.

In 1973, I tried to get a laugh out of my co-workers when I saw that a customer was name Garland Barrow. They had no idea why I thought it was funny.
