With maybe a 5~30% chance of showers/Storms in the morning or afternoon or a chance of light to gale force winds from the North West tending South East in the morning or late at night (or tomorrow).?

I think of it as the sun peeking through the clouds a little more in the morning than the afternoon.

Partly cloudy: 30-50% cloud cover. Partly sunny: 50 to 70% cloud cover.

There’s a 50/50 chance of rain everyday except for in the winter, when there’s a 50/50 chance of snow. Rain or no rain, that is the question? Weather it is greater in the afternoon or morning, remains to be seen. If they can’t get the weather correct for tomorrow how on God’s green (and blue) earth can they know anything about global warming or climate change? Stopping before I go on a ketchup man rant from grade school. Will someone please trade that kid’s TV in for an Old Farmers Almanac?

My guess is that “partly sunny” means less than 50% sunny, and “partly cloudy” means less than 50% cloudy.

Well, Wilbur, one explanation is PC has mostly clear skies. While PS has mostly cloudy skies. Another says that PC is for evening skies and PS is for daylight skies. Still confused? Welcome to the wonderful world of weather forecasting.

Partly cloudy, partly sunny; when you hear either you know the weatherman’s just hedging his bets because he’s not sure WHAT it’s going to do. My favorite weatherman was the late Sonny Eliot from Detroit – he was more comedian than weatherman and his forecasts were so funny that by the time I got done laughing at his jokes I only then realized that I hadn’t been paying attention to what he said the weather was going to do!!!! He’d slice and dice words to make new ones – “Tomorrow we’re going to have freezing rain and drizzle – that’s FRIZZLY kind of weather, thanks to a winter low pressure system that’s going to be taking its time moving over our area as slowly as a helicopter over a nudist camp and making driving as hazardous as tap-dancing in a canoe!”

The one job where you can be wrong more times than not.. yet keep your job. What gets me is the obvious, it’s been raining for the last 5 hours, by looking out the window you know it ain’t over.. yet the prognosis is still at 80%. With today’s cameras looking at every corner of the city.. surely the weather man can have a peek before he goes on air.

At least partly sunny is better than overcast – or thick cloud cover. Yes I live in Florida – and those terms are used frequently.

TV meteorologists know far more today than they did 40 years ago. Their accuracy, depending on local area factors can be 80 to 90%. Temps are a guess depending on what the microclimate is in your area could be several degrees off of what the station is telling you as most get their temp from the local commercial airport. An example. I belong to the WeatherBug network. There are 3 WeatherBug stations within 5 miles of my house, the closest is 1 mile away. I check temps a couple of times a day and have found that the 3 WeatherBug sites are usually within a few degrees of each other. Depending on conditions the temps at my house can be up to 5-6 degrees different than the station 1 mile away.

It’s not half… partly means a small portion, so partly sunny means a bit of sun here and there, partly cloudy means only a few clouds marring an otherwise clear sunny sky.
