It’s my 6 year old’s favorite food. But my mother hated it so she never served it growing up. The first time I ate it was in college, and I had to learn to like it.
Broccoli is often an acquired taste. It used to be among the many veggies that I hated. But it was often given to me at meals, so I’d suck it up and eat it first to get it out of the way. Over time, by force-feeding myself the broccoli and other veggies, I learned to love them. They’re good enough for you to be well worth that effort. Now, due to concerns about health, animal abuse, and the environment (modern animal factories are abominations), I’ve become a vegan and hardly miss animal products.
@GROG! & margueritem — LOL, that’s fine, more beets for you, less for me.
Another food my mom always made that I don’t care for is Meatloaf! Recently my youngest daughter decided to make one, and said it turned out really good. She said “I’ve only had meatloaf a few times in my life, I didn’t know it was so good!”
LOL, that’s cause her mom (me!) doesn’t like it and never served it. Funny, I love lasagna — but in our house it was always a CHEESE lasagna, and it was a Friday dish (no meat! Yes, I’m old.) I never tasted meat in lasagna until I was in high school - and I was flabbergasted. “What the heck is GROUND MEAT doing in this?? Ewwww!” I still prefer a meatless or a veggie lasagna. Preferably with broccoli :)
Broccoli, like many other vegetables, can be ruined if overcooked. Brussels sprouts, also like many other veggies, are good if tossed in oil w/salt & pepper and roasted. Caramelization brings out sweetness and flavor. I think this actually works for beets too. :-)

Let’s hope his colon doesn’t chime in; we’ll have that annoying “colon lady” showing up.

I had a great retort to yesterday’s comment but then thought better of it. Had to do with garden hoses and suction.

This is why I choose spinach. It’s always agreeable and cleans the colon just as well as broccoli!
