It’s the new normal. If you’re going to be stuck at home and all you can do is tell people what you’ve bought, it might as well be Sacks instead of Saks.

Since single use plastic bags are banned in NY, they will do a lot of business at their flagship store.

This is the real mental image you have at five years old when you first hear someone say Saks Fifth Avenue. It could be a thought bubble in The Family Circus.

In the interest of peace, they didn’t print the cartoon where the person actually left the “s” off of the end of “Sacks” and the calamity which ensued…

Reminds me of the national effort of well-intentioned pollution. Instead of free, flimsy, plastic grocery sacks that actually did degrade over time, we were forced to buy paper sacks. OK. Now there seems to be a paper sack shortage across the nation, so we are forced to pay 10 cents for a “reusable”, i.e. “virtually indestructible” plastic bag, which will likely NOT be reused and take decades to degrade.

Some of the nicer stores put purchases in sturdy bags with their name on the outside. Would you believe that many used ones are for sale on eBay? I just looked, and a large paper bag with the Saks name on it, is $14.99. What some people won’t do for the appearance of some kind of economic status!
