Toby is a teenager, the time of life where conformity means you are part of the gang, and when skepticism reigns supreme, so, to him, clowns are just realky weird people.
A high school friend of mine’s big brother & his wife were the advance clowns for Ringling Brothers/Barnum & Baily’s Blue Unit; they got married during a performance, in the center ring, in full regalia. They were the only 2 non-scary clowns I’ve ever encountered (though I confess, I never saw them in their work clothes…….)
