I would argue that, for every person, there would be a demarcation point where they would say “this one is a chicken” and the previous generation is not a chicken. Therefore, the egg that contained the “is a chicken” was first.
The first chicken would have been hatched from an egg laid by a related creature, a “proto-chicken.” Therefore the egg came first.
Then there was a cartoon of a chicken and an egg, in bed, smoking cigarettes in the aftermath, with the egg telling the chicken, “Well, Babe, guess we settled that question” (funny cartoon, but it didn’t answer the question for us).
