I didn’t like her at first, but she’s been acting sane and I think she’s got a point that there’s no sense in announcing one’s old mistakes.
So why doesn’t that highly-educated Professor get a clue, and start focusing on something a little more flattering (or, at least, not insulting) if he wants to get to spend any more time with her?
