randayn: Looks like my plug increased his subscribers a bit. He’s up to 2,033 from 2,030 yesterday. Meanwhile, I guess the backlash has boosted my subscriber base, too. I’m up 10 subscribers to 13,645.
Nathan can be a funny guy. The initial months of the strip were funny. I just hate that he pulled a Trojan Horse by using an innocuous gag strip to get signed to papers, then once he had a deal suddenly revealed his true nature. If I had thought of doing that I might have a print deal today, too.
One last comment before I start my incredibly busy day: I’ve decided that the first five days of this week, plus one other strip still to be selected, are going to form the basis of a Reuben submission for next year’s awards. I won’t win because the NCS is biased against primarily web-driven content, but I’m going to make a go at it.
I’ll be quite honest. The whole push that Universal has given “In The Sticks,” and the Trojan Norse that Nathan pulled, has seriously soured me on the syndicate. I’m still working without a contract, and if they had pulled today’s strip and run the “Fuzzy Bunny Time” instead like I half suspected they would do, I would have ended the strip after next week. At least they are willing to go to bat for my creative freedom as much as they are Nathan’s; too many media outlets are too quick to silence left-wing points of view today.
Still, if another syndicate or even a single paper comes to me with a print deal at this point, I’ll take them up on it. Or if John Glynn comes to me with an extended contract or a print deal, I’ll sign back up with Universal but without the joy that was behind my original three year deal.
..the whole In The Sticks spiel is a perfect example with what is wrong within the right wing of American politics…why do they have to MIS- lead if their cause is just? Why not just lead, instead?
I mean it would be nice to have a somewhat funny right wing strip.
A better question is why do members of the right wing put up with what is so obviously wrong? Why does no one stand up?It’s terrorist tactics amoungst their own.The right might as well be the Taliban.Obey or be dishonored!
Why would they rather be led the wrong way then kicked out?..and why is the right so intolerant of other opinions within their own group???
Why does no one stand up and say,”Whoa..enough is enough.”
..except,Scrappy,it is true in the Republican sense…any Republican willing to work with any democrat on any issue is labeled a moderate and is ostracized from their own party..see the current gov’t of Florida situation. Most republicans are more afraid of their primaries then the general elections…appearing not right enough could lose you your position…
…this is not the case in democratic circles..the dems hardly agree enough to push things through with a massive majority.
…unlike the Reps under Bush ll..not a single veto on anything..or fight amoungst themselves…
…now, the Republicans are chasing their own tails and forcing tea party issues down their constituent’s throats…
..I am amazed that not a single republican is standing up against this madness…
..no one is allowing themslves the right to think for themselves…baffling…

Which is why I stopped reading it. And I would have done the same if it had gone that far to the left.

In the Sticks represents the real America. Fewer and fewer people read there too.

Amazing how SOME people read all sides and become educated. Then——-

LOL Ditto teabaggers LOL
I find the comic pretty tame (politically) compared to say “SOTU” which was more insulting than funny.
BTW - someone put a link on “In The Stick’s” sending it back to here. Not sure of the “intent”…

Amazing how some people assume education means right wing or left wing. Or that examining both sides mean you will end up on theirs.

Comics plug each other all the time. In this case, the term “plug” may be used in the ancient Gangster vernacular.

Pab says, “too many media outlets are too quick to silence left-wing points of view today”. You mean like “State of the Union” or “Annie”?
Assuming Pab is right, could it be that the lefty strips have the same problem as the repeated failures of left-wing radio?
