Well, some commenters at Fred Basset’s said that their dogs would wait on the doormat until they got toweled dry… So some dogs do doormats…

The mudroom is any entrance that is used when you coming inside but have very dirty shoes, clothes, whatever. We used our laundry room, being that it was nearest the backdoor and convenient for chucking filthy clothes into the washing machine and a place for shucking off footwear.

The concept of a mudroom was a new and interesting one to me as a youngster.

We didn’t have them growing in the southern United States. Didn’t need them, as the ground was normally firm (not squishy) in all seasons. Even when it rained there was seldom a bunch of mud to track in.

Also there was seldom a large amount of outwear to shed / store.

No mudrooms here. Before one needs mudrooms one needs mud. Does not rain enough to need them.

I had a Rottweiler who would roll on his back and show me his feet when he came in from outside. I did have to ask though.
