This happened to me in grade one, I picked up on reading pretty quickly, and while the rest of the class was still on the first quarter of the Dick and Jane primer, I was well into the last quarter. Not quite as epic as Wallace’s comic though…
When the other kids and I came back to 7th Grade after summer vacay, our English teacher asked us what books we had read from the summer reading list… he got to me “NONE” he asked why I had not read from the list, I told him honestly I had read all those books in 4th Grade and spent most of the summer reading Schreyer’s" Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" then doing research on the footnotes and appendix.

I’m sure Wallace’s book is much more interesting.

I always used to get in trouble for reading a book under my desk during math time. . . . Still not very good at math.

I don’t remember Professor Porpoise appearing in ‘To Kill A Mockingbird.’
