Given sufficient automation, including energy collection and/or production, taxes would be unneeded, crime would be unproductive and quickly quelled, all human physical needs could be met..At that point, jobs would be optional since all physical desires could be met at zero cost.
sufficient automation needs power, either fossil fuels or some type of electrical power. You can only generate so much per capitia, not to mention the engineering it takes to design. Base physical desires can be met for zero cost, but you still have to eat.
“either fossil fuels or some type of electrical power.”.Or solar or chemical or pneumatic or nuclear or geothermal or tidal or…..
“You can only generate so much per capitia,”.
Not really. The sun generates many orders of magnitude more energy than everything on earth has ever used since this planet formed. We would only need to collect it, the tiniest fraction of it to provide all that a billion times as many of us as exist might need..Plants collect energy without human intervention.The atmosphere collects energy without human intervention.Mechanisms can extract that energy without needing humans.It’s easy to envision mechanisms able to create solar power satellites much larger than the earth using extraterrestrial materials..“not to mention the engineering it takes to design.”.
More and more engineering design is done by mechanisms aiding humans and requiring fewer and fewer humans per unit of output. Once a given design exists, it van be used a trillion times without fail and dropping the design cost per unit to nearly zero — and this assumes lack of artificial intelligence, for no inherently impossible reason..“Base physical desires can be met for zero cost, but you still have to eat.”.And food can be grown by automated systems, harvested delivered and prepared.No basically limiting factors involved..For hobbies, people would be free to take part in the artistry and possible improvements.

@route66paul.“sufficient automation needs power”.
All things require power, living or mechanism..
