I think it’s great that Roy has found something to enjoy, and Kathy seems to be just as happy for him. When is the last time any of you waited in anticipation for anything? And expressed that anticipation with abandon, as Roy has? Choose to be happy.

hmm.. swiss hand made watch that express creativity and mechanical expertise or glorified Casio with an apple logo made in a sweat shop in China that will be obsolete in two years and costs twice as much as other models that can do the same thing and look better.. hmm.. think.. think.. hard decision..

in the looks department: moto 360, round screen with clear notifications instead of a tacky thing that flips tiny dots with a pin wheel (and costs less even with metal strip)

in the functionality department, garmin fenix (even though it costs a little more). designed for functionality, instead of something that if used as a health monitor, it turns out to be a bulky thing that will bump your wrist when you run

in everything: pebble, which looks better, does something useful, can stand with a battery charge for way longer, presents a clear interface and costs a third of the price

as a watch: there are automatic (will self-wind with the movement of the hand, instead to be plugged to the wall every day) tissot chronographs that start at a range of $650 – $700 or so (though more expensive, will not be obsolete in two years)

I forgot: will nearly replace your cell phone, even though it looks nearly as tacky as an iwatch, samsung gear s

if it works for you, good for you, specially if it does what you expect it to do (and still does it after a few years) and you did not feel like being ripped off.the thing is, this is not just an electronic watch (though it may costs more than some basic mechanical watches), is a watch that connects to the cell phone and gives notifications, and may run a few light apps, but just as cell phones or computers, this thing depends on cpu speed, protocols and so on. this is just an electronic device, not some timeless thing. in a few years it will be too slow to run more recent apps, and the protocols will be obsolete, just like using the first smart phone (not iphone) to connect to data networks, or the 3g after that one, or in a more watch-specific case, the first bluetooth protocol. and the company that made your watch probably did not copy everything from somebody else, yet claims that they invented rectangle shape and color black.

Once again, Roy has his priorities straight!

now about that Dick Tracy wanna be watch from Apple – after FINALLY binging and finishing Season 2 & 3 of Continuum – I am now eyeing my Fitbit with extreme suspicion.

The comments about the iWatch and Dick Tracy remind me of years ago when someone put in a patent for using ping pong balls to raise sunken boats. it was denied because the basic idea appeared in a Carl Barks Uncle Scrooge story.
