the last company I worked for had numerous checkpoints for questionable urlâs; firewall routers etc. they also scan any devices on their network for software that was not approved.
Most men have poor typing skills.. typos will frequently get you a web page you had no intention of finding.. and links to get you out often donât work.
I cleared the cache for one of the ladies at work and found thousands of cookies for porno sites. They were all time stamped from the wee hours of the morning so either it was a security guard or someone from the plant coming over to use her computer (power plants run 24/ 7). I advised her to replace her chair.
In the early 2000s I thought Iâd look up something about the London underground railway on my lunch hour for my better half, as we didnât have internet at home at that time.
The search engine didnât come up with one link to anything railway related. It was all music and sex clubs. Finally I just gave up.
The internet seems to have cleaned up a lot in the 20 years since then. Or maybe the IT department didnât have access to content filters back then.
Early days of the Internet me and another engineer were speculating about the origin of the term âhunky-doryâ as we walked past the receptionist on our way to lunch. I casually asked her to look it up on the Internet as we walked out. Upon our return I got an angry âDonât ever do that to me again!â I apologized but for what I still donât know. For a few days I worried that HR might visit meâŠ..
Not that I browse anywhere that I shouldnât, but I have been dinged for visiting a couple of web sites that had nothing questionable in their content or names⊠one was the site for a major supplier. Management backed down on ITâs oversight when I pointed out that if I am not allowed to use the supplierâs site for just-in-time orders we will be out of materials â and have to halt production.
