I think a lot of people dream, and while they are busy dreaming… …the really happy people, the really successful people, the really interesting, engaged, powerful people… …are busy DOING. The dreamers - they stare at the sky and they make plans and they hope and they talk about it endlessly, and they start a lot of sentences with “I wanna be” or “I wish”. Girl #1: I wanna be a writer! Girl #2: I wish I could travel around the world! FILM SCHOOL SCREENWRITING 101 - CHARACTER - STRUCTURE - STORY The buttoned-up ones meet for cocktails and they brag about their dreams. And the hippie ones have vision boards and they meditate about their dreams. Maybe you write in journals about your dreams or discuss it endlessly with your best friend or your girlfriend or your mother. And it feels really good. Dreams are important, its hard to get where you want to be if you don’t know what that is. Its just that dreams are only the first step. After dreaming comes planning. After planning comes action. Then you may get what you’re looking for — the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune notwithstanding.

Shakespeare told us (I think perceptively) that or little lived are surrounded with sleep. If that’s so, this must be a dream (merrily, merrily). When we actually understand what Reality is, perhaps then we can pass judgment on peoples’ dreams and how they use them. Some people dream they have a purpose they must fulfill.Some of us “do” but don’t judge the actions of others if they don’t. We all get the result we aim for, whether we know it or not. We all make our beds and lie in them. As Theodore Roethke put it, “What else is there to say? We end in joy.”
